Why doTERRA?
The doTERRA Mission

Founded in 2008, doTERRA was built on the mission of sharing the highest quality essential oils with the world.

7 individuals (the founders) got together and formed a company and named it doTERRA, a Latin derivative meaning “Gift of the Earth.”

"Changing the world one drop, one person, one community at a time."

Today, over 10,000,000 people around the world are using doTERRA products to support their health and financial abundance, all the while making a difference to the lives of the growers, harvesters and distributors of these pure and potent essential oils.

Their Mission in Action

Testing - Above & Beyond

doTERRA created its own testing process, calling it CPTG - Certified Pure Tested Grade®.

The CPTG process certifies that there are no added fillers, synthetic ingredients, or harmful contaminants in their essential oils that would reduce their efficacy. doTERRA even goes a step further, putting all their products and the packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf-life. This protocol ensures potency, purity, and consistency batch to batch.

Their testing sequence far exceeds the industry standard in both breadth and scope. Each step ensures that only the highest quality essential oils pass through quality control, quality assurance, and on to us.

Because of their purity, we are happy to apply them topically on our skin, use them for food flavouring (where applicable), and diffuse in our home to create a beautiful ambiance to support our health and emotional wellbeing.

Sourcing Where Plants Thrive Most

With over 100 essential oils in its product line, doTERRA sources its oils from over 40 countries—more than half of which could be considered developing countries.

doTERRA places great value on the expert knowledge of local farmers—many of whom have nurtured essential oil plants for generations. doTERRA recruits their expertise into a Global Botanical Network and, in so doing, responsibly supports thousands of jobs around the world.

doTERRA’s extensive sourcing partnerships empower doTERRA to produce exclusive, proprietary oils and blends that preserve the purity and potency of each plant. Ninety-six percent of doTERRA single oils and oil blends are exclusive.

By using doTERRA essential oils, not only are you supporting your health and wellbeing, you are creating much-needed jobs and security for the growers, harvesters and distillers and their families and communities.

Sourcing Guideline Principles

When doTERRA looks for sourcing partnerships, they deliberately choose locations where they can improve the individual, social, economic, and environmental well-being, while producing the highest quality essential oils.

As many of their essential oils grow best in developing countries, doTERRA is in a unique position to build and support ethical supply chains that benefit rural communities in need.

Co-Impact Sourcing provides the tools needed to help lift these families and communities out of poverty and promote economic development. doTERRA adheres to additional Sourcing Guiding Principles when working in developing nations.

Generating Jobs

dōTERRA seeks to reduce poverty through generating ethically responsible employment in essential oil production. By creating and sustaining jobs in rural and underdeveloped areas, dōTERRA supports marginalized workers and smallscale producers in developing countries and seeks to enable them to move from income insecurity and poverty to economic self-sufficiency.

Providing Fair and On-time Payments

dōTERRA provides fair pricing. A fair price is one that has been contractually agreed on by all through dialogue and participation, which provides fair and on-time pay to producers, and can also be sustained by the market. Fair pay means (i) provision of socially acceptable remuneration in the local context and which the producers themselves consider to be fair, and (ii) equal pay for equal work by women and men. Additionally, pre-payments or loans are often provided to sourcing partners to help manage cash-flows and stabilize incomes throughout the year.

Building Supplier Capacity

dōTERRA builds the capacity of farmers, distillers, and producers of essential oils. Increased capacity leads to increased incomes for supply chain partners through improvements in farming techniques, increased yields, improved process efficiencies, and strengthens productivity of the supply-chain ecosystem as a whole. dōTERRA supports initiatives, typically through local NGO partners, that build capacity and deliver greater profitability through harvesting and storage services, technology improvements, logistics enhancements, provision of farm inputs, and agricultural training.

Sustaining Long-term Partnerships

dōTERRA develops long-term partnerships with growers and distillers based on solidarity, trust, and mutual respect. dōTERRA promotes the growth of its partners through long-term contracts that do not maximize profit at their expense, and facilitates predictable pricing for small scale producers to ensure consistent, growing demand. dōTERRA finds appropriate, participatory ways to involve its partners in decision-making processes and ensures that communication channels are open at all levels of the supply chain.

Ensuring Fair Labor Conditions

Cō-Impact Sourcing® requires our partners to ensure fair labor conditions and to promote safe and healthy working environments free from exploitive practices, harassment, and discrimination. Furthermore, it requires partners to comply, at a minimum, with national and local laws and ILO conventions on health and safety, working conditions, and labor laws.

Promoting Cooperatives

Cō-Impact Sourcing supports and respects the right of all employees and producers to form and join cooperatives, to bargain collectively, and to maximize the benefits of collective organization. Such collective membership often enables members to obtain better pricing on agricultural inputs, better access to financial instruments, as well as access to collectively-owned harvesting and other equipment.

Ensuring Environmental Stewardship

Cō-Impact Sourcing promotes the use of energy efficient technologies and renewable energy technologies to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. dōTERRA seeks to minimize the impact of waste streams on the environment, and encourages agricultural producers to minimize their environmental impacts. Priority is given to buying products made from raw materials that originate from sustainably managed sources, and bulk goods are dispatched by sea wherever possible to minimize carbon footprint.

Facilitating Community Development

dōTERRA recognizes that the well-being of communities surrounding our sourcing partners is key to the long-term viability of essential oil supply. Increasing livelihoods and improving living standards in these communities at large is one of the primary goals of Cō-Impact Sourcing. Premiums are often paid for Cō-Impact Sourced oils, and these funds, as well as contributions from the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation®, are used to support community development projects such as the construction of schools, health clinics, training facilities, and clean water systems.

Co-Impact Sourcing

Co-Impact Sourcing is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in underdeveloped areas.
doTERRA is committed to the ethical treatment of its suppliers by providing on-time payments at fair prices. Growers and harvesters are encouraged to form cooperative groups to share collective benefits and bargaining power while improving skills and capacity.

We've had the honour and privilege of attending co-impact sourcing trips. Check out our efforts below. We are looking forward to many more opportunities to serve with doTERRA.
Laying the foundations for a new school in earthquake ravaged Nepal.
Building a bridge to protect local communities from crocodile infested waters in Africa.
Supporting the local women with Days for Girls sanitary packs so they don't have to miss out on their education needs in Nepal.
Planting Hawaiian Sandalwood trees in Hawaii in a huge reforestation project between doTERRA and the Hawaiian government.
Source to You

doTERRA prides itself on transparency. It has set up Source to You as a resource to understand the process your oil goes through before reaching your home, and offers you a report, based on your oil batch so you can see the purity yourself.

Don't you love it that you can see EXACTLY what is in your essential oil - just 100% pure, potent and yummy essential oil! That's it. Nothing else. Period. We love this commitment to such exacting standards that puts our health first.
Healing Hands Foundation

doTERRA aspired to serve people and communities with the resources they had. Initially, this meant donating to charities, fundraisers, and community projects, but it eventually grew to be much more.
The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation was created in June 2012 as an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The foundation is one of the ways doTERRA reaches out and serves communities in need.
They do this by partnering with organizations and doTERRA Wellness Advocates to offer hope to millions around the world. Through the foundation’s efforts, lives are freed of disease and poverty, and communities are empowered with the tools needed to become self-reliant.

100% of donations to Healing Hands Foundation go directly to aid - doTERRA fund the administration costs entirely through initiatives such as below.

Every time we purchase a Hope oil, or the Rose Lotion, or make a donation when we place our order, we are helping support communities around the world.
Rose Hand Lotion

All proceeds of Rose Hand Lotion go directly to the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation.

doTERRA chose Rose Oil Lotion as a product donation because of its unique value. This lotion is infused with Rose essential oil, which is known as the “Queen of essential oils.” Rose essential oil is a labor-intensive oil that requires the extraction of 242,000 rose petals from 8,000 roses to produce only 5 mL of essential oil.

Because of its many benefits and its intense extraction process, Rose oil is rare and valuable. doTERRA chose this Rose oil infused lotion to donate and represent the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation because it embodies the value of the Foundation.
Hope Blend

All proceeds of the doTERRA Hope Blend go directly to the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation.

The doTERRA Hope Blend was released at the 2016 doTERRA Convention, alongside the announcement that nonprofit organization Operation Underground Railroad (OUR Rescue) had been established as an official partner of the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. OUR Rescue is dedicated to rescuing children around the world from sex trafficking and slavery. In 2016 alone, doTERRA donated $500,000 to the organization.

The blend was originally manufactured solely for OUR Rescue to distribute to at-risk children. The original oil label peeled-back to reveal a list of hotline numbers so that at-risk children could call for help.

Due to the high demand of the doTERRA Hope Blend at its release, however, it was determined that this blend would be available for individual sale as well. Although the blend was repackaged for sale to remove the peel back feature, the original oil with the original label continues to be donated to OUR Rescue by doTERRA to promote the efforts of their organization.

Days for Girls

It is easy to take feminine hygiene for granted when products are relatively inexpensive and accessible. But in developing countries, feminine products are not only expensive, but typically completely unobtainable for most women. Without available feminine supplies, girls miss school, miss work and go without income, and are homebound for days, every single month.

"Days for Girls has changed lives through creating the kits and teaching women’s health to entire communities,"
said Dave Stirling, doTERRA CEO.

"We wholeheartedly support their cause and champion the belief that every girl in the world deserves education, safety, and dignity."
Just wow right!
doTERRA is a company that we are proud to invest our time business building. We sing their praises and witness their heart in these and so many other humanitarian projects around the world.
